Walmart donates $10,000

The Weyburn Wor-Kin Shop received a hefty donation from Weyburn Walmart this week.
The $10,000 donation is part of Walmart Canada's Local Matching Grant Program, which provides support to hundreds of local Canadian charities across the country every year.

Under the program Walmart associates identify causes in their own communities and raise money for those causes locally.

Staff at the local store raised $7,000 through an in-store fundraising event and part of the money raised was matched by Walmart Canada's home office in Mississauga, Ontario.

"We're pleased the provide support for this important local cause," says Troy Langford, Weyburn Walmart store manager. "Community involvement is as much a part of our business as providing everyday low prices or friendly customer service."

"I'm so excited, this is the first of the major local sponsors to come on board," says Andria Brady, executive director of the Wor-Kin Shop. "The money will go directly towards our fund to raise $500,000 towards our new day program building that will start in the spring."

Walmart Canada strives to give back to local communities in ways that matter most to its customers and associates with a focus on health-care, hunger, education, safety and the environment. In 2010, Walmart Canada raised and donated more than $23 million to charities and organizations in-need.
